Minago Quarry
Our First Step
Minago Dolomite
With 111 million tonnes of dolomite we have a large resource. Following the Indigenous tradition of “using the whole animal,” the Minago team has worked to monetize the layers above the nickel. The potential economic uses of the cover rocks include:
magnesium extraction from the dolomite,
quarrying of the dolomite for use in road building, cement, rail ballast and riprap, and
use of the sandstone to produce high quality silica sand for glass making.
The magnesium resource in the dolomite is a critical mineral, with about 11 million tonnes of magnesium potentially recoverable, and this has become the key to opening the rich resources of Minago. See the Magnesium Project for details on how Minago has licensed best in the world technology to extract magnesium from our dolomite in order to meet Canada’s needs for this critical
Quarry Operations
The dolomite quarry is entering an exciting new phase of development, with initial site preparation now underway. Controlled drilling and blasting have been successfully completed to access high-quality dolomite layer, which at this site contains 111 million tonnes of dolomite. These carefully managed activities have been planned and executed in conjunction with a hands-on training program to build expertise with the local First Nations in the jobs that will open up when the quarry moves into full production. With trained personnel, there will be a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
On site, modern crushing equipment has been installed and is being prepared for operation, allowing material to be processed efficiently as extraction continues. As the quarry ramps up, it is positioned to supply consistent, reliable dolomite products to meet regional demand while adhering to best practices in operational excellence and stewardship of the surrounding environment
